Los Osos Library provides access to a variety of databases for personal and academic research.
If you are new to research, you may find it helpful to begin with ProQuest Research Companion video tutorials that explain the research process and provide helpful tips along the way. Just click the red and white icon to get started.
Our district also provides access to NoodleTools, an online app that can be used to save bibliography information and organize your research notes. Click the gold and navy icon to get started. Click the Microsoft 365 icon and login with your district username and password.
ProQuest: eLibrary
ProQuest eLibrary is designed to support beginning researchers by providing a collection of sources for specific research topics. This is an excellent place to start if you need topic ideas, or you are researching one of the 11,000+ topics covered by this database. Log into this database using your district username and password.
Gale in Context: High School
High School Resources in Context is an online database offering thousands of full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, primary source documents, images, videos, audio files, and links. Sources are checked for validity and continuously updated. Student Resources In Context covers a variety of topics, so this is a good starting point for most research assignments. To access these resources, click Sign in with Google, and login with your district username and password.
ProQuest: Central Student
Use ProQuest Central to access a variety of databases covering everything from science and history to technology and current issues. This is a good resource for advanced researchers and AP students who need access to college-level and peer-reviewed texts. We recommend creating a My Research Account within the ProQuest platform to save searches results and documents. Log into this database using your district username and password.
PBS Video Collection
This collection of more than 1,600 streaming videos includes PBS's most acclaimed video documentaries and series. Topics range from science to history, art to Shakespeare, diversity to business & economics, and more! Once you have logged into the platform, you will be able to isolate and share clips, making this a useful source for research and presentations. Gale Virtual Reference Library

Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints
Opposing Viewpoints in Context is an online database that covers the latest in social and controversial issues. Each topic features continuously updated viewpoints, topic overviews, full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, primary source documents, statistics, images, videos, audio files, and links. This is the perfect database for debate assignments, but it is also a good resource for any topic on which reasonable, well-informed people might disagree. ProQuest: SIRS Issues Researcher
SIRS Knowledge Source is an alternative to Gale's Opposing Issues database. Look here for more resources on controversial topics, new and old. Log into this database using your district username and password.
ProQuest: Culture Grams
Culture Grams is a unique resource that provides in-depth country reports that go beyond mere facts and figures to provide perspectives on daily life and culture in over 200+ countries, the United States, and Canada. If you need to investigate a country for your World History class, this is the place to start! Link your Google account (district username and password) to save articles from this database.

Science in Context is an online database that covers all things science.
