How do I get to the library's card catalog?Return to the the home page, and use the search bar on the left that says "Online Catalog." A list of Los Osos Library books and other resources will open in a new tab.
How many books can I check out? For how long?Students can check out up to three books at a time. (Additional books can be checked out under special circumstances. See your librarian for help.) All books are checked out in two-week increments. If you need more than two weeks to complete a book, stop by the library to renew your book. Most books can be checked out for up to six weeks with renewals.
Can I request a book?Yes, please! Book orders are placed throughout the year. If you'd like to request a specific book, email Ms. Becker using the "Need more help?" form on the right, or add the information to the Book Request clipboard at the front counter.
What if my book is late?It's important to return your library books on time since other students may be waiting to check them out. However, the Los Osos Library is no longer charging late fees for overdue books.
What if I damage or lose a book?Students who lose books or return books that are moldy or intentionally damaged will be charged the purchase price of the book. Most novels cost between $15 and $25, but textbooks can run over $200. Be careful with your books! Payment plans are an option.
What are the Gale and ProQuest passwords?Passwords for all of the databases can be found at this link. Note that you must be logged into your district Google account (Short ID; Long ID + Pwd) to access this information.
What if I lose my ID card?Although you can use library resources without your ID card, all students are expected to carry their current LOHS ID cards at all times, and you must have an ID card to participate in many school activities, such as dances. You can get a replacement card in the library during regular hours for a cost of $7.
Do I need an ID card to use a computer?If you don't have your ID card, you can still check out a computer before school, during lunch, and after school using your long ID number.
How do I log-on to a computer?Log-on to library computers using your district log-in information. User name: LongID#, Password: ShortID#Pwd
How much does it cost to print or photocopy?Printing and copying are free for all printer-friendly, school-related assignments. If you need to print or copy personal items, like party invitations or club fliers, the cost is ten cents per page. Log-on to one of the library computers, and select the "Library-Student Xerox 5325" setting to print.
Do I need an appointment for tutoring?NHS tutors are available daily before and after school on Monday through Thursday. No appointments are necessary! When you enter the library, look for a table with a tutoring cone.
